Clinic significance
Ethanol (ethyl alcohol) can cause both acute and chronic poisoning. Symptoms depend on the amount ingested, age, concomitant drugs, the subject's general state of health and individual sensitivity:- between 0,5 and 1,0 g/L: intoxication, mental confusion;- between 1,0 and 3,0 g/L: intoxication, hypoglycemia, convulsions, encephalopathy, delirium tremens;- over 3,0 g/L: coma, anoxia, alveolar hyperventilation, respiratory acidosis, metabolic acidosis.
