Clinic significance

Insulin-dependent diabetes (IDD) affects 0.3% of the population and 6% of relatives of a person with IDD. In some circumstances, it may be useful to know the probability of developing insulin dependence (related to a patient with IDD, latent diabetes, type 2 diabetes ...)
When the 3 markers (anti-islets of Langerhans, anti-GAD and anti-IA2) are positive, the probability of developing insulinodependance within 5 years is very high and when the three markers are negative, the risk is low.
