Clinic significance
Thyroxine (T4) is the precursor of triiodothyronine (T3). High levels are associated with hyperthyroidism and iodine overload. Low levels are associated with hypothyroidism and iodine deficiency. T4 levels depend on the concentration of transport proteins and vary in response to certain drugs.
