Clinic significance
HIV antiretroviral, nucleoside analogue, inhibits HIV 1 reverse transcriptase. Oral bioavailability of the order of 80 %, half-life of approximately 1hr30. Its uptake is not modified by the intake of food. Shows good meningeal diffusion. Possible hypersensitivity reactions during the first 6 weeks of treatment. All respiratory, skin or digestive symptoms require an urgent examination. Never represcribe after discontinuation due to intolerance. Risk of lactic acidosis in patients suffering from hepatopathy or obese patients.
