Clinical significance

Determination of amiodarone and its metabolite desethylamiodarone. Amiodarone is an antiarrhythmic agent reserved for severe cardiac rhythm disorders. Therapeutic monitoring of the patient is recommended to enable dosage adjustment and to monitor any overdoses (there is inter-individual variability in the metabolisation of the compound). This treatment may lead to a change in thyroid balance: hypo or hyperthyroidism.
