Clinical significance

Widely used in industrial applications such as photography, the minting of currency, jewelry, tinning and dental alloys. Has antiseptic activity (especially in eyebaths and mouth-washes). Silver poisoning is rare but can induce hemolytic anemia, hepatic insufficiency, acute pulmonary edema, encephalopathy and nephrotic syndrome.
