Specialty

Clinical significance
An enzyme secreted by Group A streptococci (usually those causing nasopharyngeal infections) or certain Group C and G strains. High levels of these antibodies or, to an even greater extent, evidence of seroconversion, are strongly suggestive of post-streptococcal sequelae. ASLO levels rise initially more rapidly and fall earlier than those of anti-streptodornase antibodies. Sera from patients with hyperlipidemia or liver disease may give false positive results.
