Clinical significance

This antithrombin immunoassay is used to investigate hereditary AT III deficiency. The functional assay of AT III activity (heparin cofactor with a synthetic substrate) should be used to detect acquired AT III deficiency (see Antithrombin III - activity). The antithrombin antigen assay, combined with the antithrombin activity assay, can characterise the antithrombin deficit
