Clinical significance

An aromatic hydrocarbon commonly used in industry as a solvent. Poisoning by benzene and its derivatives usually involves inhalation and is called benzolism . Subjects may present with asthenia, anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia and gastrointestinal, neurological and skin problems together with medullary involvement and severe pancytopenia.
