Clinical significance
This enzyme is intimately involved in the recycling of biotin, because it both acts as a cofactor for several carboxylases and it cleaves biocytin to produce biotin and lysine. Deficiency of the enzyme results in functional carboxylase deficiency with metabolic acidosis, lactaciduria, hyperammonemia and organic aciduria.
