Clinical significance

One of the cleavage fragments of complement Factor B is involved in the formation of the C3b,Bb complex which is an alternative pathway C3 convertase. Factor B is also referred to as C3 proactivator.Congenital Factor B deficiency is rare. Reduced levels can be observed when the alternative pathway is activated or when the classic pathway is activated via the amplification loop.
