Clinical significance

Carbohydrate Antigen 50 is a membrane protein bound to a ganglioside and a glycoprotein which can be isolated from human colorectal adenocarcinomas. The significance of this marker is similar to that of CA 19-9 with which it shares an antigenic determinant.
