Candida albicans - screening serology - serum
Back to the listEurofins Biomnis code
CAND
Synonyms
- Candidiasis
Specialty
Infectious
Clinical significance
Serological diagnosis is only relevant to visceral infections. Results can be indeterminate because of a lack of specificity due both to C. albicans being a saprophyte and also to low sensitivity in immunosuppressed patients. Serological analysis should only be undertaken as a complement to conventional culture-based techniques, histological analysis of infected tissue and assays to detect antigen in the blood (which appears early in infection but disappears quickly).
