Clinical significance

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the main psychoactive molecule in cannabis. THC is a narcotic and can be taken in leaf, resin or oil form. When used recently, THC can be detected in the blood. Its main metabolites (THC-COOH and 11-OH-THC) may be found in the blood for a variable length of time, depending on how long and how much it has been used. Determination of cannabinoids in plasma by LC-MS/MS includes : THC, THC-COOH, 11-OH-THC.
