Clinical significance

Major antiepileptic. Half-life of 5 to 27 hours. Stabilised state is only reached in around 2 weeks after the start of treatment or any change in dosage. Numerous drug interactions (enzyme inducer). The liver metabolism induces the formation of active metabolites, including carbamazepine epoxide 10-11.
