An immunosuppressant specific for T-lymphocytes. Used to prevent graft rejection (following kidney, liver, bone marrow and heart transplantation) and in certain autoimmune diseases. Its variable bioavailability, its very restricted therapeutic range and its strong nephrotoxicity all mean that monitoring its blood concentration is important.
