Clinical significance

A tricyclic antidepressant drug used to treat endogenous depression and depression with psychomotor retardation. Half-life of clomipramine itself of the order of 20 hours and that of its active metabolite, demethyl clomipramine, even longer, between 25 and 50 hours. Test useful for monitoring treatment, establishing the correct dose and detecting evidence of toxicity (especially heart toxicity).
