Clinical significance
Cryptosporidium parvum is a sporozoan protozoon which causes enteric disease and prolonged diarrhea in immunodeficient patients, especially those with AIDS. Diagnosis depends on finding oocysts by specific staining of the feces (which are sometimes concentrated before examination).
