Clinical significance

A good marker for bronchopulmonary malignancies other than small cell carcinoma, i.e. large cell and squamous cell carcinomas. Its levels may also be slightly elevated in patients with non-malignant lung disease (e.g. tuberculosis and pulmonary embolism).
