Clinical significance

Produced from progesterone under the effect of 21-hydroxylase, DOC is the immediate precursor of corticosterone and aldosterone. It has a mineralocorticoid action. Its assay is recommended in cases of 11-hydroxylase and 17-alpha-hydroxylase enzyme deficiencies, adrenal tumours and in arterial hypertension analysis.
