Clinical significance
An effector released from activated eosinophils. High levels in the blood are a marker for inflammatory processes involving this type of granulocyte. Most useful in monitoring asthma and patient compliance with treatment regimens.

Further information
Prohibit use of haemolysed serum
Turn the tube over several times without stirring or centrifuging.
Leave to coagulate for 60 to 120 minutes at room temperature (22°C +/-1°C)
Centrifuge at 1000-1300 g for 10 min at room temperature.
Transfer the serum into a new tube and freeze.
The type of tube used for the sample, coagulation time and temperature should be perfectly monitored because these parameters affect the concentration of the ECP released into serum samples.
