Clinical significance

An effector released from activated eosinophils. High levels in the blood are a marker for inflammatory processes involving this type of granulocyte. Most useful in monitoring asthma and patient compliance with treatment regimens.

Further information

Do not use haemolyzed serum.
Protocol for sample preparation before dispatch :
1. Invert the tube several times without shaking or centrifuging.
2. Allow to clot for 60 to 120 minutes at room temperature (22°C +/-1°C).
3. Centrifuge at 1000-1300 g for 10 minutes at room temperature.
4. Caution: Transfer the serum to a new tube. (Without this step, the sample cannot be analysed).
5. Freeze the tube.
NB: The type of tube used for collection, the duration of coagulation and the temperature must be perfectly controlled as these parameters affect the concentration of ECP released in the serum samples.
