Clinical significance
An anti-epileptic drug used in the treatment of simple absence seizures. Rapidly absorbed in the intestine (90 to 100%) after oral administration.Peak plasma concentration observed after 3 to 7 hours in adults and after 1 to 4 hours in children.Half-life in the plasma: 60 hours in adults and 30 hours in children.A stable concentration is reached within 1 to 2 weeks in adults and 4 to 7 days in children.Adverse reactions: gastrointestinal (nausea, vomiting and anorexia), cutaneous, psychiatric and hematological (leukopenia and thrombocytopenia) disturbances.There is no potentiation or any other significant interaction with other kinds of anti-epileptic drug.
