Clinical significance
The fibronectins are glycoproteins of which one form is soluble and is found in biological fluids and another is insoluble and found in connective tissue. They play important roles in tissue remodeling, embryogenesis, cell differentiation and migration, immune responses and wound healing.Plasma fibrinonectin (the soluble form) can be assayed by nephelometry . Fibronectin also functions as a marker for nutritional status since malnourished subjects have low levels while the obese demonstrate elevated values.
