Clinical significance

The terminal metabolite in the synthetic pathway of 17-hydroxylated androgens. Useful in the investigation of certain forms of hyperandrogenism in which androgens (testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, etc.) and testosterone-estradiol binding globulin levels are normal.
