Clinical significance
Human herpes virus type 7 is a virus in the Herpesviridae family (subfamily Betaherpesvirinae). Discovered recently, this virus appears to be closely related to human herpes virus type 6: like HHV-6, it could cause roseola. Little is known about its other clinical effects.HHV-7 is transmitted horizontally, generally via oral secretions (saliva). The virus is found ubiquitously, making it difficult to associate specific symptoms with HHV-7 infection. Seroprevalence is high in the majority of individuals, and the level of anti-HHV-7 antibodies cannot be considered a response to any disease.Currently, the value of biological diagnosis appears to be limited, using both serology and PCR techniques.
