Clinical significance

This antibody is a useful predictive parameter in insulin-dependent diabetes (IDD). The presence of anti-IA2 antibodies together with anti-insulin and anti-GAD antibodies is strongly predictive of IDD. This is independent of both age and whether or not pancreatic islet-specific antibodies are present.
