IgA1 accounts for 80 to 90% of total IgA and IgA2 the other 10 to 15%. This test is used to type IgA deficiency which can result in enhanced susceptibility to infection. IgA2 deficiency is often silent because IgG2 antibodies can make up the anti-infectious role of this class of antibody.
