Clinical significance
KIR receptors are expressed on the surface of NK cells as inhibitory and activating combinations of inhibitory and activating receptors. These combinations combinations into two haplotypes: A and B. The ligands for receptors are HLA class 1 molecules, of which HLA-C is the most important. Certain KIR-HLA combinations have an impact in the context of autoimmunity, infection, fertility, etc.
