Legionella is an environmental bacterium, especially in warm water environments, which is disseminated in the air as an aerosol. The species most frequently encountered in human pathology is L. pneumophila serogroup 1. Serodiagnosis allows only a late or even retrospective diagnosis of legionellosis. Its prescription should be limited to the presence of negative antigenuria associated with a strong suspicion of legionellosis and in the absence of an available lung sample. The diagnosis of legionellosis can only be confirmed if a seroconversion or a 4-fold increase in antibody titer measured by indirect immunofluorescence is detected. Testing for anti-Legionella pneumophila antibodies at the Eurofins-Biomnis laboratory is performed according to the following algorithm: - ELISA microplate IgG/IgM test for L. pneumophila serogroups 1-6, and in case of positivity - Titration of antibodies to L. pneumophila serogroups 1 to 6 by indirect immunofluorescence. Please note that we perform a global IgG test for L. pneumophila serogroups 1 to 6 (from a mixture of antigens), and not a separate test for antibodies to each serogroup.
