Clinical significance
A glycoprotein hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary after stimulation by Luteinizing Hormone-Releasing Hormone (LH-RH) from the hypothalamus. LH acts together with Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) to induce estrogen secretion. In males, LH stimulates testosterone secretion by the interstitial cells of the testis. This test is performed in parallel to FSH assay in the investigation of gonadal insufficiency and with a number of stimulation tests.
