Clinic significance
A sedative anxiolytic and muscle-relaxing drug belonging to the carbamate class. Anticonvulsant properties at high doses. Half-life = 6 to 16 hours. This test is useful for acute poisoning since blood levels depend on the rate of absorption of the drug which varies with time due to the fact that the tablets tend to stick together at the gastric mucosal surface. Overdosage can lead to heart failure or shock.
