Clinical significance
Oligoelement used in the production of batteries and in the metal, glass and colourant industry. After pulmonary absortion, managanese is mostly found inside erythrocytes. It half life in blood is short. It accumulates in the liver, brain, kidneys and thyriod, and is removed via bi phase elimination (faecal) with a half life of 40 days. Chronic intoxication causes nerve and respiratory problems. The level of managanese in the blood and urine does not correlate directly to exposure.
