Clinical significance
In adults, anti-MOG's are associated with a specific radiological clinical profile that is distinct from the profile associated with anti-AQP4's in patients with NMO and the profile of patients with MS. The most common expression is in the form of recurrent optic neuritis. In children, anti-MOG's are associated with a broad clinical spectrum, including cases of MS. Patients presenting with anti-MOG's share common characteristics: young in age, 1:1 sex ratio, good functional recovery despite initially severe symptoms, risk of recurrence. Note: Anti-MOG's may be less sensitive in LCR than in serum.
