Clinical significance

Type III procollagen results from the conversion of procollagen into collagen by the relevant proteases. Its levels are high in liver disease (e.g. viral hepatitis, chronic active hepatitis and primary biliary cirrhosis) and in osteitis deformans, scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis and myelofibrosis.
