Clinical significance

Major antiepileptic. Half-life of 10 to 48 hours. Stabilised state reached in 8 to 15 days. Large number of drug interactions (enzyme inducer). Concentration increased by chloramphenicol, INH, acetylsalicylic acid, phenylbutazone and Na vaproate. Concentration reduced by carbamazepine and phenobarbital.
