Clinical significance
It is known that this phospholipid binds to high and low molecular weight kininogen (HMWK and LMWK). A significant percentage of plasmas with circulating anti coagulants and some thrombosis accidents will be dependent upon phosphatidyl ethanolamine. Anti antiphosphatidyl ethanolamine antibodies are often the only auto immune markers for repeat foetal loss without manifestation of an antiphospholipid syndrome. Rare lupus cases have even indicated their involvement.
