Clinical significance
A peptide secreted by epidermoid cysts involving the ear, nose and throat region and the lung, by tumors of the ovary and breast, and by certain forms of leukemic cells. The active site of this peptide is structurally related to that of parathyroid hormone and it has similar effects in bone and kidney tissue, inducing hypercalcemia, hypophosphoremia and increased nephrogenic cyclic AMP.
