Clinical significance
The search for a bacterium, commonly referred to as bacteriological culture, is based on the culture of samples from various locations/natures to identify potentially pathogenic bacteria. Research is carried out on selective culture media and potentially under different incubation conditions depending on the nature of the sample and the research required. The result of the bacterial culture must be compared with the clinical-biological context, the associated flora present and the antibiotic therapy potentially in place before the sample is taken. The search for nominally designated bacteria concerns, for example, Nocardia, Actinomyces, Corynebacterium diphteriae and Brucella, using samples adapted to the search required. Depending on the bacteria identified, one or more antibiotic susceptibility tests may be carried out on the initiative of a biologist or following a telephone agreement with the correspondent.
