Clinical significance

Soluble interleukin-2 receptor (IL-2R) levels give a measure of the extent of activation of T-lymphocytes. Therefore, this test is useful for monitoring purposes following organ transplantation. High levels are seen in AIDS, hairy cell leukemia, leukemias of mature T-lymphocytes and certain forms of autoimmune disease.
