Clinical significance

Bronchodilator that is used mainly for asthma and for chronic obstructive bronchopneumopathy. The half life varies in line with the age and smoking habits of the patient. The dose-effect correlation is very good and therapeutic follow ups use residual levels once in equilibrial state (2 days for adult non smokers, 120 hours in new borns). The therapeutic margin is narrow and the following symptoms occur if overosed: - > 20 mg/l : nervousness - > 30 mg/l : Tachycardia, arrythmia - > 40 mg/l : convulsions, coma
