Synonyms
- Avidity index of anti-Toxoplasma gondii IgG
- Avidity of anti-Toxoplasma gondii IgG
Clinic significance
Where IgM is present, measurement of IgG avidity can make it possible to rule out the risk of mother foetus transmission of Toxoplasma infection. It studies the dissociation of Ag/Ab binding following treatment with urea. The higher the avidity, the older the infection. An exclusion threshold for recent infection can therefore be established based on the techniques used. In contrast, a low avidity index does not necessarily demonstrate a recent infection (maturation of IgG can be shorter or longer depending on the individual).
