Clinic significance
Western Blot technique essentially used to monitor newborns whose mother displayed toxoplasmosis during pregnancy. The mother's and infant's profiles are compared and if the infant has bands that the mother does not have, this indicates congenital toxoplasmosis. However, if the profiles are identical, this tends to suggest antibodies transmitted passively by the mother.
