Clinic significance
Promiscuous zoonosis due to infection with Trichinella spiralis. Diagnosis is informed by the subject's eating habits (consumption of horse meat, pork, wild boar or seal meat) and whether or not any other members of the family are affected. Infection causes fever, facial edema, myalgia and eosinophilia. Diagnosis should be confirmed by serological analysis.
