- Tubular reabsorption rate of phosphorus
Specialty

Clinical significance
Measuring the rate of the Tubular Reabsorption of Phosphorus (TRP) is useful if a renal component is suspected in a case of abnormal calcium phosphate metabolism. TRP is reduced in renal insufficiency, tubular acidosis, Fanconi's syndrome, vitamin D-resistant rickets, hyperparathyroidism and hypercalcaemia.
Preanalytics
- 1 mL Serum + 5 mL of a 2hr acidified urine collection(pH<3)
- Reftrigerated
- A tube specifically for this analysis : No
Further information
The calculation of TRP require creatinine and phosphorus assays on serum and urines.
The subject, fasting since the previous evening, empties his/her bladder at 8 a.m. and consumes 250 mL of water. Collect the urine eliminated from 8 to 10 a.m.
