Clinical significance

The daily physiological excretion through the urine varies from 1.5 to 4.5 mmol/24h. These values are higher in gout sufferers as a rule but without taking the hyperuricaemia fully into account. During treatments with uricosurics, uraturias exceeding 6 mmol/24h must be avoided because the risk of precipitation of urinary crystals is very high.
